Encroachment Treatment
Most of our engagements are for mechanical encroachment treatment of farmer’s fields. The USDA and FSA are monitoring farmers CRP fields closer than ever. When it is time to renew or reenter the program many farmers are being docked acreage due to encroachment over the years. Even though they have mowed and maintained the fields as required by the program often the wooded edge of the field slowly creeps up eating away at the available acreage. The FSA determines the amount of encroachment by comparing areal photos of the farmer’s field at time of renewal, to photos of how it looked when they entered the program. This can cost the farmer thousands of dollars in yearly CRP revenue.
This is where we come in. We work with the FSA to obtain photos of your CRP field encroachment (with your permission). We then use these photos to tailor our treatment to ensure we focus on the areas the FSA would like to see addressed. Our equipment is specialized to safely address this type of work. We use a 12,000 pound mini excavator fitted with a shredder that can easily shred large branches and small trees (up to 6” in diameter). For the larger trees we replace the shredder with a bucket to dig up the tree roots and all. In 2023 we obtained the necessary FAA certifications to use a drone to document our work. We take before and after photos of your field and access road. We then use these photos to create a very detailed Encroachment Treatment report. This report allows our clients to prove action has been taken to address their encroachment with the FSA and USDA.
